FAQs & Docs

Everything you need to know about Coldge's platform.

About Coldge

What is Coldge?

Coldge is a communication and community platform designed primarily for students and academic communities. It allows users with educational accounts to connect through messaging, group chats, official channels, posts, and events.

Who can use Coldge?

Coldge is intended for students, but anyone with a valid educational or university-affiliated email address may be able to create an account.

This includes:

  • University and college students
  • Verified users (faculty, admins, leadership, etc.)
  • Verified organizations (clubs, departments, businesses, etc.)

Is Coldge free to use?

Yes. Coldge is currently free to download and use.

Accounts & Verification

Why do I need an educational email address?

Educational email verification helps:

  • Keep the platform focused on academic communities
  • Reduce spam, scams, and misuse
  • Create a safer environment for students

Can alumni or non-students join?

If you have a valid education- or university-affiliated email address, you may be able to sign up even if you are not currently a student.

What are verified organizations and users?

Verified organizations represent official entities, including clubs, departments, businesses, and organizations. They have their own official channel and can create group chats, posts, and events.

Verified users represent official individuals, such as verified faculty, admins, leadership, and other authorized personnel.

Both verified organizations and verified users are clearly identified on the platform. If they violate any rules, they can be reported by other users.

Messaging

What types of messaging does Coldge support?

Coldge supports:

  • One-to-one (private) messaging
  • Group chats
  • Messaging with verified organizations and users

Are messages end-to-end encrypted?

No. Messages on Coldge are not end-to-end encrypted at this time.

Messages and shared content are stored securely on Coldge's backend using industry-standard security practices. We are actively working on improving message encryption as part of future updates.

Who can see my messages?

  • Private messages are visible only to the participants
  • Group messages are visible only to group members
  • Messages sent to verified organizations are visible to the organization managing that channel
  • Content may be reviewed if reported or required for moderation, safety, or legal reasons

Can I delete messages?

Yes. You can delete messages you have sent. Some data may remain temporarily for legal or technical reasons.

Voice Calling

Can I make voice calls?

Yes. You can start voice calls in both one-to-one chats and group conversations.

Are calls recorded?

No. Voice calls are processed in real-time and are never recorded or stored by Coldge.

Groups & Community Contributions

What are group chats?

Group chats allow multiple users to communicate in a shared space. Groups may be created by users, verified users, or verified organizations and can have administrators.

What is the "Contribute to the student community" option?

Some group chats may enable a "Contribute to the student community" option.

When this option is enabled:

  • Documents shared in the group become public
  • These documents can be searched and viewed by all Coldge users
  • Users do not need to be members of the group to view these documents

This helps turn useful materials into shared resources easily and passively.

How do I know if documents in a group are public?

If community contribution is enabled, this is clearly shown at the bottom of the group's information page.

Can this option be turned off?

Yes. Group administrators can disable this option at any time.

When disabled:

  • New documents will no longer be public
  • Previously shared documents will no longer be publicly accessible or searchable

Drives

What are Drives?

Drives are community-driven file sharing spaces where users can upload and tag academic resources to help others.

Are these official documents?

Files are contributed by users. While the content itself may be official (e.g. course materials), their presence on the platform relies on user contributions and does not imply official endorsement or verification by the institution.

Can I report inappropriate files?

Yes. If you find any file that violates our policies or contains inappropriate content, you can report it directly through the app for review.

Events

What are events?

Events allow users to create and share academic, social, or campus-related activities with the Coldge community.

Who can create events?

Any Coldge user can create an event, unless their account is subject to:

  • A temporary mute
  • A suspension
  • Other moderation restrictions

Safety & Moderation

How does moderation work?

Moderation on Coldge primarily relies on:

  • User reports
  • Group administrators
  • App administrators
  • Platform moderators

Content that violates community rules, Terms of Service, or applicable laws may be removed, and accounts may be restricted or suspended.

Can I block or report users and organizations?

Yes.

  • You can block other users at any time
  • You can report users, verified organizations, messages, group chats, documents, posts, comments, and events

Reports are reviewed and appropriate action may be taken.

Privacy & Data

What data does Coldge collect?

Coldge collects only data necessary to operate the service, including:

  • Account and profile information
  • Messages and shared content
  • Basic device and usage data

Full details are available in the Privacy Policy.

Does Coldge sell my data?

No. Coldge does not sell or rent personal data to advertisers or third parties.

How can I delete my account?

You can delete your account directly from within the app. If you need assistance, contact support@coldge.com.

Notifications & Support

Does Coldge send push notifications?

Yes. Coldge sends notifications for messages, group activity, events, and important updates.

You can manage or disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
